PREPARATION

Make sure the surface is clean, smooth and dry before you start.

1. Remove old wallpaper and/or flaking paint if these (partially) cover the wall. These can cause peeling and prevent the adhesive from penetrating into the surface.
2. Fill and sand all cracks, scratches and imperfections with an emery paper.
3. Clean the surface thoroughly with a degreaser and water so it’s free from dust and/or other residues that can penetrate the wallpaper.
4. Apply a primer if the wall is too absorbent or porous. Test if the product is absorbed and doesn’t leave a layer before applying it. It is recommended to use a white primer so that any colors on the wall have no chance of coming through. It is recommended to use a white primer so that any colors on the wall have no chance of coming through.
5. Allow plastered walls to dry completely to prevent the adhesive from loosening.
6. Has the wall been treated with emulsion? Apply a thin layer of wallpaper paste and let it dry completely so the surface won’t absorb the adhesive too quickly.

CUT THE STRIPS

Step 1

1. Start in the corner closest to the window and work away from the light. This way the seams will be less visible. Use a spirit level and graphite pencil to draw a perfectly vertical line on the wall. Line up the first strip of wallpaper with this line and use it as a guide for the succeeding strips.

Step 2

2. Determine the length of the first strip: measure the distance from skirting to ceiling and add an extra 5 cm for trimming.

Step 3

3. To determine the length of the second strip, roll out the wallpaper on the ground along the first strip and check where the pattern meets.

Step 4

4. Take this as the starting point to measure the wall height and add an extra 5 cm to cut the second strip. You will probably have plenty of excess at the top of the roll.

Step 5

5. Repeat the steps above until you have enough strips to cover the entire wall.

APPLY THE WALLPAPER

Step 1

1. Use an adhesive for non-woven wallpaper, such as “Perfax Roll-on Magic”, and apply it evenly to the wall, slightly larger than the strip.

Step 2

2. Apply the first strip and flatten out by moving a rubber roller up and down the wallpaper.

Step 3

3. Immediately remove excess adhesive between two applied strips with a damp, soft and clean sponge or cloth. Under no circumstances rub the same spot twice and do not use any chemical cleaners. Dried paste might damage the wallpaper.

Step 4

4. Finally, trim the wallpaper at the ceiling and skirting using a ruler and utility knife.
