Difference between acrylic glass vs plexiglass

Acrylic glass is another name popularly used for Plexiglas. If no real Plexiglas® is used, the name Plexiglas® may of course not be mentioned on the website. It is often referred to as acrylic, acrylic glass or PMMA. The well-known name of Plexiglas® together with the consistent, good quality are our main arguments for not choosing a competitive material. Although the other brands look the same as Plexiglas® at first sight, the differences in quality are enormous.

Certain reasonings:

Residual monomers

• Cause: Due to a too short curing of the plates, not all molecules can fully bond in the plate.

• Consequence: they turn yellow much faster, cause faster breakage during processing and can be difficult when printing and gluing.

Competition often produces too quickly:

• Cause: Plexiglas® XT extruded sheets are rolled to get them to the right thickness between 2 crushing rollers. The speed is sometimes increased above the maximum.

• Consequence: much more tension in the material, causing it to break more quickly, processing much more difficult, thickness tolerances are greater, which is harmful to the printheads.

Color guarantee:

Plexiglas® always produces a very clear sheet. There are the light gray plates of the competition that you only see when the photo has already been printed.

Formats, colors and adhesives:

Evonik is one of the few producers in Europe who make so many large formats and thicknesses. A wider range of colors also has advantages. Only manufacturer of a good Plexiglas® adhesive. These adhesives cannot be purchased separately.

Monomers/MMA:

• Cause: Evonik, the manufacturer of Plexiglas®, produces its own monomers. One of the few manufacturers in the world. These are the basic raw materials (a kind of granules) that you need to make Plexiglas® products. Prices are rising due to a structural shortage.

• Consequence: Evonik even supplies monomer to competitors, who in turn turn it into plates. They feel these increases less and will not soon run out of stock.

German quality:

• Most Evonik products are produced in Germany. Competitors already dare to purchase from China, India, Turkey, etc. This results in quality and color differences between productions.

• If there is a problem, we can count on a representative here in our country and the factory is also not far. This is useful in many cases.
